American Royals: Inheritance (A Prequel Novella) by Katharine McGee

Kindle Edition

What if... America lost the revolution and had a monarchy? That's the premise of this book series by Katharine McGee.

I started this on February 12 and finished it 2 short days later on February 14th. Talk about a fast read.

This book started to offer insights into how things came to be in the first book in the series. There's a king of America with three children - Beatrice, Samantha, and Jefferson. All with different (and sometimes) intertwining drama they call their own.

I don't want to give too much away, though read any of the reviews of this book and you'll get them anyway. This is a light-hearted, easy read. It's fun to imagine how things would be different if America was... different. A monarchy. What do you think it would be like? Take a look at some of the other royal families around the world, and you'll have a good idea.

Navigating, avoiding, and managing the prying eyes of the press. Dealing with competing and often unscrupulous actions of "friends", family members, and random people. Trying to have a private life in the public eye. Living with family knowing you are either the "heir" or "spare", and the list goes on and on - see "Spare" by Prince Harry. Except this is the fictional version.

If you like "Royal" things, you'll like this series.

American Royals III: Rivals by Katharine McGee

Kindle edition

Third book in this series - another page turner and entertaining quick read!

I started this book on June 5 and finished it on June 12. I don't know how it is for you, but I can lose myself in a book. When I'm really into the book, and the story, details, and writing are just right, it's easy to immerse myself in the book and feel like it is real. Of course, I'm not delusional and I know what reality I live in. It is just easy for me to imagine another reality that the book depicts.

More royal drama between family and friends. The story is great. I love the characters. If you've liked the other two, you'll like the third!

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee

Kindle edition

I fell into this series of 3 books by Katharine McGee after reading her "American Royals" books (which I love, by the way). I started this book on May 11 and finished it on May 21.

This book focuses on a group of friends/people living in a not-too-distant (100 years) future New York where the Tower is a 1,000-story building that's basically a city in and of itself. Yes, it is in New York / Manhattan. Yes, it is it's own city. And Yes, the Manhattan city still exists outside of the Tower, but it's different than the Manhattan we know today.

This book is kind of like Gossip Girl meets The OC meets the future all wrapped in one. There are the haves and the majorly haves and the have nots. They don't really mix, until they do.

This book follows all of the drama of a core group of people trying to figure things out, especially how a person came to plunge to their death from the top of the tower.

I enjoyed this book and was eager to get into the other 2 in the series.

American Royals II: Majesty by Katharine McGee

Kindle edition

I started the 2nd book in the American Royals series on December 13 and finished it on December 20. Another great read!

I don't want to give too much away, but America has a new queen, Beatrice! This book covers what happens once Beatrice takes the crown. As you'd expect, there is major drama - with family (Royal family), friends, strangers, paparazzi.

If you liked the first book, you'll like this one.

American Royals (book 1) by Katharine McGee

Kindle edition

I think I may have heard about this book from the Real Simple magazine reading list, but I don't fully recall. I can tell you that I really liked this book and couldn't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

I started this one on October 4 and finished it on October 12.

Imagine, if you will, if America after the Revolutionary War became a country with a King and Queen - a royalty class? That's the premise of this book. America has a King and this book is about his family - the Washingtons (yes, related to George Washington, America's first King).

It's set in modern time. There is the oldest daughter (Beatrice), the one who will inherit the crown. And there are twin younger siblings, a boy (Jefferson) and a girl (Samantha), who are the spares. This book is about their relationships with each other, their relationships and desires (or not) for the crown, their friends who are less royal, and their lives navigating through protocol, school, family, and friends.

This was certainly a page turner and I loved it!
